What would you guys suggest to finish out the system? I have seen rave reviews of Alpine Type R's on here, but I don't know which ones people are using. Or are there better options out there that are not too high dollar? I realize I'll need any amp for the highs. I currently have an old Pioneer GM-840 that is 35W x 4 as well as an old Rockford Fosgate Punch 75, but I don't know if either of these amps are good enough to use in this application. If not, what would you suggest?
For the front doors, I had thought about getting some good components powered by the appropriate amp. For the rear doors, I had thought about just continuing to use the factory speakers powered off of the factory head unit but with some sort of crossover to keep bass out of these speakers. The reason I was considering this is that from what I have read, you just need a little for rear fill and don't want it to be too overpowering. In addition, it would let me purchase a cheaper two channel amp, if I need to buy one, and my fade would still work. What do you guys think about that setup? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
well if you don't have a ton of cash like most people this is what i'd go with.
definitely go with component speakers in the front, most of your money should be spent there! don't ever skimp out on the front speakers! i bought some polk audio db 5.25 component they sound great and the mid bass is great with them. however most people go with the 5x7 conponents which sound great too. i'd recommend the infiniti reference components for this set up. they are alumium dome but they aren't that harsh like most alumium tweeters.
for the rear, just get any plain jane 5x7 because they are just the rear speakers. i'm sure any 60 to 70 dollars 5x7 would do just fine! hell, polk audio db's are selling for 50 dollars from crutchfield. i think they are still offering buy a pair of speakers get the other 1/2 off.
once you figure out what speakers you want, you should get an appropriate amp for them. try to at least give them 80% of the power they are rated for or at least 70%. don't worry about the rear rating because you should set those just to fill up the sound and not neccesarily equal to the fronts! its ok to go with 70rms to the rears when they are only like 50rms because they shouldn't be set that high compared to the front.
if your going to power the front door speakers with an amp, don't run the rears off the deck. because you will have adjustability on tune with the front and absolutely nothing with the rear. you should have adjustability with all 4 speakers. your best bet is to absolutely feed them off of a 4 channel.
this is what i recommend. try a 5.25 round component, possibly the pol audio db's like mine for 180 and then get a 5x7 for the rear and its 1/2 off. if you don't like them, and you buy from CRUTCHFIELD.COM they will take it back and sell you another pair. the ones i got are silk dome, at loud volume they are not harsh on your ears and its smooth. however, if you don't like the silk tweeters, go with an alumium dome tweeters like the infiniti, however get the REFERENCE series but they are better than kappa i beleive. if you dont like the mid bass from a 5.25 then go with the 5x7 components.
all in all though dude, SPEND MOST OF YOUR MONEY IN THE FRONT DOOR SPEAKERS! YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THAT! DONT SKIMP OUT TO GET BETTER REAR SPEAKERS. I'D RATHER SPEND 200 ON THE FRONT SPEAKERS, AND 50 ON THE REAR THAN SPEND 125 ON EACH SET OF SPEAKERS!
if you go to crutchfield, they have sales all the time, buy a set of componenets from them with pol audio its 180 for the components, and the 5x7's are 1/2 off for 30 bucks. thats 210 for speakers and you'll be happyl.
you can pm me if you'd like dude!
