Did I FUBAR something?

So I was taking a few minutes to clear codes before the install of a new cap, rotor and plugs to try and slay the surging idle / code 41 dragon ( https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...e-41-help.html )

My kid took a bad tumble and I went to help. Came back 3 hours later (don't ask) and finished the cap/rotor...and discovered I'd left the ignition on.

Will this likely hurt anything? I started the truck and now it won't idle at all. Don't know if I did anything or if the computer is just needing to learn a new setting.

Unhook the battery (neg)and put your truck back together. Let it reset, and take the truck for a run.

Like Khadma said, reset your computer and take it for a drive. It just needs to "relearn" it's idle, not a big deal.

Cool, that's what I was thinking too. Before I do that (tomorrow) I might as well throw in the new plugs. Thanks folks.

i hope you are not putting platinums in.

use motorcraft copper plugs and use some anti sieze.

soak the old plugs with rustbuster before you try to remove them.

Anti seize, my new best friend, goes just fine with Motorcraft plugs too!
Good reminder and tip QL2!

The "old " plugs are only about a year old, but so slimed from running rich that I figured I'd just put new one's in. Motorcraft copper, I've been down the dead-end platinum highway before. And yeah, I learned about anti-seize years ago with my VW '71 Westfalia :-).

Thanks though, those are always good tips in case some uninformed person is reading...

Edit: And don't forget the silicon stuff so that your spiffy Motorcraft plug wires don't tear up trying to come off the next time...

It's amazing how many things in our vehicles are better off coated with some form of slimy substance...
