Question Do you know what these are?

I'm trying to go with the bigger axle ( 1986 Ambulance / Dulley) , but I would like to keep the 5 lug wheels on the 91 truck.

Can I swap the axle shafts and drums from the 91 into the bigger 86 dulley axle?

Truth is I can't tell you what the axles are , So I went and took some pictures and wrote some numbers down to post.

The 1986 information lable :
WB:158 , Type: E303 , Body: HH , Trans: G , Axle: E2 , Spring: O F
The Tag on the cover is pitted badly with rust and not ledgable.
But the cover has 10 bolts and a drain plug. And the front is apart of the axle case (not a front removable chunk) it just has a pinion hole.

This is the 1986 Dulley Axles

--------------- ------------------- ------------------ --------------

The 1991 trucks lable say : MB: 139 , Type: X151 ,Body: BDM , Trans: T , Axle: 19 , Tape: 3 , Springs: C D

The tag on the rear cover says:
5844A
55 88 OHO7

The cover has 10 bolts also, No drain plug
And there is no front chunk on this axle either, the gears have to be put in from the cover side (rear)

Here is the 1991 axle :

---------- ----------- --------------- --------------- ----------- ----

Will the Guts swap? Can the smaller 91 axles shafts work in the bigger 86
Axle?

Thank you all for this information

Half-ton axle parts won't fit with anything on a 1-ton rear.
What is your truck?

And what about using wheel adapters?

no nothing will interchange. the dually is most likely a Dana 60, and your 150 has a much smaller rear.

the complete rear may fit in, but interior parts will not swap.

Why do you want to go with a bigger rear end? The easiest upgrade would be to throw a 9 inch under there.

Well.........I guess I got half of what I was hoping for...........LoL

The truck I'm building is the 91 F-150 , and the donar is the 86 ambulance .

I really want to lift this truck to hold 38"s or 40"s and figured the bigger axle would just be more durable, but I cannot put the front 86 front axles on the 91 because of diamention problems with the pivot arms , radious arms and spring holder.

The frame on the 91 f-150 is 33" wide and the frame on the 86 box van is 37".

Yet i figured I could still slip the dulley axle under (they are both the same width ) , but I don't want mismatched lugs (8 on the rear and 5 on the front).

Yet , Thank you all for helping me understand this question about axles

Well, if you want to go with big meats, then you really want to upgrade that rear end. the 8.8 is a c clip axle, so if you ever twist off a shaft, you'll lose your tire and whats left of the axle shaft. If you were on the cheap, and really wanted to use the dually rear end, you could weld the lugs holes shut, machine them flat and then redrill for the 5 on 5.5 pattern. I'm not sure if the hub size would be an issue with half ton rims though. If you weren't on the cheap, you could get aftermarket shafts with whatever lug pattern.

Awe Man........Here I go again...........

Where do you find these shafts at? Are they complicated to install?
Just How Much Are They?

Hook a bruthur up..........Lol

I really don't "Off Road" at all ,I just like the truck sitting higher.(Versitle Looks)
Alot of the guys can't go where I go on some of the job sites , I just like having the option of driving across the mud with the trailer. And not have to walk across the mud like they most often have to do, when I'm not there. (them skinny tires they have wont let them.....Lol)
And all I have is a 3" body lift and a set of 33 X 12.5 At"s

I do pull an 18' steel flatbed trailer 4 out of 7 days a week.
With the factory axle and 33"s presently.

But even if I drop the a gear in the back, the "clip" axles may be prone to breakage with the bigger diamiter tires???

I like the 38"s - 40"s with around a 14.5" width

I have not been pulled over by an officer in 10 years, and travel the south eastern states.
It's our regonal area.

Well, the 8.8 isn't known to be any sort of a strong link in ford's past, but if you weren't up to custom axle shafts or if you are dead set on keeping the 5 lug pattern and not using adapters, you could go with these http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=sku Those turn the axle into a semi-floater, as opposed to what it is now.

Some how I'm getting the idea that the wheel adapters would be less complicated.......Probably stronger..........If I break a lug on the plate , that would be easy to replace verses another shaft.

I was a little more deturred by the spacers because I would like to keep the truck as square as I can..............I can't see the f-150 looking like one of those little cars with the little skinny wheels sticking way out on the sides....Lol

I'm going to consider the spacers as suggested

Thank you for showing me these options

No problem, thats what we're all here for, it learning stuff and helping. The adapters really shouldn't move your wheels out too terribly far, and if you wanted to keep the wheels in the wheelwell, you could run a rim with more backspacing. Just a thought.

Woe Man the only spacers I could find were like $600. 2 piece 2.5" wide minimun.

Wonder if I could find the spindles/knuckle off a 4X2 F250 to fit the piviot axle of the 150

Then I would have 16" 8 lugs all the way around (with 15"s you have to grind the caliper down)

Oh and I have found out the Big Axle is supposedly a Dana 70 1 Ton H.D. with 4:10 LS in it from the factory.

So It already has the lower gears in it.
