Smile Differential / Axle ?

I'm building my 1991 F150 SC truck to be much stronger (pulling wise), it's only a 2WD , It has 33"s and I would like to have 38"s or 40"s one day.

I have replaced the AOD with a S.B. C6 that worked out beautifully , except for having to cut the drive shaft back a meer 3".

My Question is:

I have and 1985 Box Ambulance Truck/Van (the Donar) It has a dulley rear end with the big axle (the one that the chunk can come out the front) The motor is a B.B. 7.5 gas engine

My truck the 91 has the small rear axel ( the one with the cover on the back of the axle , the chunk won't come out the front) The Motor is a 5.0

The drive shaft flanges match and will connect, but I don't want the dully 8 lug wheels on the back. I would like to have the 5 lugs as I presently have.

Can I take the Axles out of my (smaller) 91 and put them in the (bigger) 85.

I mesured the width of both axles (Brake cover to brake cover) and they are both the exact same width. I'm sure the drums are different.

How can I make the big axle a 5 lugger ? Is it even possible?

I am going to just by pass (remove , disconnect ) the RABS if I can put the bigger axle in.

Woe ............No spacer here .

I'll do a Rolled Rustolium Paint job.......But no wheel spacers........Lol

I'm trying to keep the wheels from sticking out in the back as much as I can, it's hard enough to park the thing as it is.

Thanks for the idea though

why not find some 8 lug wheels that are not dually and use them?
if you switched axles in the rear ends, it would be like having the smaller one still

Ummm......

The frame on the 91 truck is 33"wide , and the frame on the box van is 37"

The front axle piviot arms are around 2" longer / wider on the van then the truck

So the front pivot arms on the van wont work on the truck.
The radious arm would be 2" off to (the inside)on both sides. And so would the springs at the top.

Yet with the truck being lifted I would not mind the wider stance of the 8 lug axles and hubs ,if possible

Other wise your right , I would up-grade the whole suspention and go with the 8 luggers all around.

They are a little more expensive then the 5 lugs , and harder to find in the boneyards here in north florida also.

I'm not so much worried about gas , as Durability.
This is like building model / RC trucks when I was younger, just on a much larger scale.

I'm going to go take some pictures and post some numbers with them and see if I can find somemore information with this.
