does anyone have a plow on a f150? i need to find out how far off the ground the lower mount is. i got a freebie plow but its off a jeep and i have to make a lower braket. even some pics of the plow mount would be nice. the one i got is a old meyers(i know they junk but it was free) that the mount stays on year round
I'm about to put a 4" lift in mine and 35's, but I'm just weld a piece of steel to where the plow actually hooks to the head gear so it'll be lower to the ground. That's where I'd do my adjusting at, and keep the head gear up higher and out of the mud.
About 6"-8 is the average Of all Plow (and I have a 1 ton now) I have had you can go higher. Dont forget to throw some F350 844s Coils in front you'll thank me.
You need to make sure that the assembly that goes from the blade to the mount is level when the blade is down. Otherwise, if the assembly is angled up from the blade to the truck, the force of pushing snow will be unweighting the front end, and you lose some of your traction, and even steering if it is bad enough. Also, the blade won't cut like it should. I have plowed commercially for 9 years and set up several trucks. Just look at any pro install. In fact, you should try to find some examples of your blade on your style truck, and mimic the mount or even just buy the proper mount and save yourself the headache of trying to fabricate one (unless you are a master welder). You can't just weld up any old thing and stick it on, the frame WILL bend unless the right geometry is involved. This year I had one guy tear off a BOSS V blade mount on a 95 F350, and that was a proper professional mount. Granted, if you are just doing your driveway, you might not see the abuse our rigs do, but you still want a strong setup or your frame will get bent. Especially on an F150. I tore out the frame horns on a Chevy 1 ton this winter and had to reweld the whole mess, and the accounts that truck sees are all easy little driveways. All it takes is one good hit on a frozen pile....
i dont think they ever put a permenent plow mount on a truck this new so i doubt i could buy the rite braket but i do have good fab skills so it shouldnt be a problem. i gess ill have to put the blade infront of it on a block so its level and biuld from there
