Question Alternator

looks like i need a new alternator, was wondering if what is the best one for my 1986 F250 Diesel 4x4 (duel batteries). heading to Lordco after work to get my haynes manual and a new alternator. suggestions most welcome.

That alternator is expensive. Your best bet is finding a local auto eletrical shop and see how much they want to fix the one you have.

thanks....
through talking with auto yards i was told that the alternator probably isnt the problem (too new looking), using my haynes manual i seem to have a short. pulled fuses till the test light went out. the manual i have is for the engine only. now i have to search online for a diagram for the fuse panel to find out what that fuse belongs too.

This is for a gas engine. Diesel probably is the same with some small differences.

was the fuse for the courtsey lamps. with neg off the battery used a test lamp and when i got to that one and pulled it the test lamp did not light. guess i need to go and get the manual for the rest of the truck lol. brain is shot on how to get it all working properly. thanks for the help Dave

Got the alternator checked and it was toast. got a new one and changed it out in the parking lot. now everything seems to be working good so far

found the short in my courtesy light wiring. the under the hood light and the back up power for the stereo system were attached to the power wire by all being twisted together and wrapped in electrical tape.
