Hi Got me a 2008 ford Ranger with 2.3L 5 speed auto want to install aftermarket cruise and I hva e been told no more speed sensor in the trans they put it in the abs module or powertrain module I need to know where is the best location to tap into the VSS signal and color of wire and location

It will pick up any eletronic pulse signal such as the one feeding the spedo not sure my Ranger has the sensor on the rear end will check

Chances are it will not read a signal directly from the reluctance sensor which is likely on the rear diff...
I do not have access to ranger wire colors or wiring, I could have helped if it were a 2008 SD
Look... under the hood, passenger-side @ the PCM module- for a Orange/Violet wire. This also should be your VSS. I'll look some-more if I can get a pin-out location to be of further help.
Hi I have checked my pcm and dont have the orange with violet wire you mention but I have a solid violet wire with a thin orange strip in location of the center plug of the pcm upper left hand corner as standing in front looking at the firewall could this be the one Thanks Jeff

I have ABS and see the controler unit that hase a small box off the back side witch I belive is the module has 13 or so wires comming out of it in a plug Jeff

With a new truck I would be VERY careful about putting aftermarket cruse on it. If ford wants to nit-pick you may be voiding at least part of your warranty. Greg
