help!

I bought a 78 f100 project and was told that the engine is a 351w. I am wanting to upgrade to a 4barrel carb and intake manifold. How do I make sure that this is a 351w and not a 302? I know that it has to be a small block because it has 6 bolts. I would hate to order parts for a 351w and then find out it's a 302. Thanks a bunch.

If it's a 78 truck, then if it was a 351W, then it's not the original motor. Look behind the distributor at the block, if the "wall" under the intake manifold is about 1" or taller, it's a 351W. If it's just a shade higher than the distributor hole, it's a 302. If the intake has 16 bolts holding it down to the heads, it's a 351W, but an earlier version. The 69-76 351W's had 2 more intake bolts per side than the 302's. A look at the casting numbers on the block will also help, these are located above the starter, you'll have to look up from under the truck to see these.
