Ok so this dump I am most likely gonna get is in kelowna. Ive found a few around here, and a few in alberta that were decent priced and whatnot, but have been very rusty. This one has very little rust on it, and is in really good shape.
Its a 1981 mack. Has a 280hp 300 mack in it. All mack drivetrain. Ive done alot of asking around and these were the best, longest lasting, toughest trucks back in the day. Its a little heavy duty for what I want it for, but it will work. Price is 8 grand for it. It has a list of new stuff put it in, including the drive tires. the guy is a mechanic and SAYS he keeps his equipment in tip top shape.
I know it is a ways to go, but all its gonna cost me is a bit of fuel for the civic, maybe a plane ticket, a permit to bring it back, and fuel to bring it back.
So far that is gonna be way cheaper going that route then to buy some junk I have run into around here.
Actually a nice tranny. The only reason I had trouble for abit is that I thought it was a regular 8 spd. The splitter doesn't work well going fomr 6th to 4th.
Im not sure, I didnt really ask the guy too much about the tranny. Im gonna be calling him again and when i do I will have to get him to specify to me exactly what kinda ten speed it has. Maybe it has a EF and he just told me it was a mack. Not that I would mind, I like the EF.
Keep in mind I've been drinking a wee bit but I think the problem with Macks trannyies is that the gears did not all have the same RPM difference. Example 1st to 2nd may be a 400 rpm diffewrence BUT 6th to 7th may only be a 200 rpm difference.
Oh don't forget the saying I once read in some bathroom at a Hodgins sale.
Driving a Mack, is like Porkin a Pig it's ok.... as long as you don't get caught.
There is a guy in Rouleau that is getting out of the backhoe business and he has a Mack for sale, not sure of any details but if you are interested I can find out for you.
