400 crank in a 351W?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Jan-02 AT 02:20 AM (EST)]this doesn't exactly answer your question, but i checked around houston trying to find a place that would do the machine work. i had to do a lot of looking just to find a place that could/would do it. it was about $250 to get the counterweights cut down just so the crank would fit in the block. another $250 for .17" offset grind to stroke it (optional). aside from that there is some work needed so the timing gear & balancer will go on - i'd guess about $40 for that. and of course after getting the counterweights cut down it'll need expensive heavy-metal balancing. i have no idea how much that costs.
i decided to go with the 351m/400 block, because of cost of the crank mods and the fact that you can use longer rods, and because i want to use cleveland heads...
i've seem 3.85" and 4.00" stroker cranks made for the 351W on ebay that were about $500, so it looks to me like if you want to use the 351W block, then one of those would be about the same price and MUCH easier!
