which truck?

Everyone, I'm a newbie here, so I hope that someone can help me, even if these questions might seem stupid!

I'm planning a special project based on a n F-series truck. The only thing that I am certain of at present is that it should be a 2WD, 460EFI engine, and E4OD trans with mechanical speedo drive. Which trucks should I be looking at to buy?

Secondly, keeping the EFI, trans, what can I do to improve power / torque, and where can I get the parts from? Emission is not really an issue for the project, but it does have to be diven on the street with 87 octane pump gas.

I would suggest a '92 to '97 F250. They are readily available with a 460. The rear axle will be better to withstand power upgrades to the motor. As for up grades on power, chips, Strokeing the 460 and keeping the compression ratio down to 9.5:1 will allow you to run 87 octane

But, with power upgrades, you will have to have a rebuilt/performance trans to withstand the extra power/torque.

Thanks for the answer. The rear axle shouldnt be a problem, in the project I'll be using a 9inch. I'll have a look on the posted links and see what they say.

Do the later F-series use an electronic speedo, or a cable to the E4OD?

Any more link for chips and stuff?

the 92-97 use an electronic speedo but i think Currie enterprises has a VSS to make it work for the 9inch rear !

The reason for thinking of the 3/4 ton rear, is that it is a full floater. If you break an axle shaft, the wheel wont come off like a 9 inch would.
