Sprung a leak

I developed a slow leak (oil) out of the front (lower) part of the motor. I also notice the passenger side head has a small amount of oil residue on it (towards the rear). I still have a warranty (70k) but would like to have some ammunition w/ me before I take it in. Thanks

The leak and oil residue should be all the ammunition you need. If you need more then you need a different dealer!!

Right. But sometimes the dealer will say things like it needs to leak a certain amount before it becomes a warranty item. I was just looking for others opinions and experiences.

Just took my 03 in for oil seepage (wasn't enough to form a drop of oil), dealer fixed it under warranty.

Problably glow plug bus bar. Oil leaks internally through the bus bar connectors and out the harness.....

Generally leaks are classified by a system. Ford may say it's not worth the complete tear down if its residue. Some dealers will go and fix it regardless, that makes them a worthy dealer. But most will also say, until it hits the concrete, it's not a risk worth taking. However it's up to you.

Where exactly in the front lower part of the block are you leaking? Bed Plates are notorious for leaking on the 04 block. I'm starting to develop the same thing. Mine is centralized all around my Oil Pan, yet my gaskets are fine to the pan. Is there anything in your drive way? Indications of leaks hitting the pavement?

Yes it has left a signature on my garage floor. It appears to be coming from the front of the crank...... but it my be coming from a source above the crank, its very hard to see. It hits the tierod first.

Sounds like the Bed Plate.. Its between upper/lower section of the block.

If its hitting the floor, take it in.. Take photographs of the floor damage and advise them this is a pavement leak. They should have no objection to repairing it.

I took mine in today. They called and told me mine was leaking from the front engine cover - what I called the water pump cover - they said yes that’s it. Mine was showing oil around the pan on the lower passenger side. I have had good luck with this dealership and do believe they have a decent diesel tech. I’m having them change the rad hoses and belt while they were doing the warrantee work. It is an 03 and my warrantee expires in May.

Take it to a dealer & have them put dye in your oil the only right way to find a leak
