Odd electrical issue??

On my 84 f250, I melted some wires when I was torching the bed bolts off. I retaped them so they arent touching each other, but Im pretty sure it messed something up. Right now, if you pull the light **** out one click, it wont turn on the parking and instrument lights, but if you pull it slightly farther, it will turn them on. But, if you go a full two clicks out, the headlights turn on, but the instrument and parking lights turn off. They wont go on at the same time. Also, my turn signals wont work. Everything worked before, so what should I check? Thanks.

Check the fuse for the running lights, and the turnsignal fuse too. What you are doing by messing with the headlight switch, is putting the switch in a position it's not supposed to be in, and you are bridging the circuits together inside the switch. The switch is fed by several different power sources. So you are bridging one of the good power sources over onto the running light circuit. The running light circuit will not work in the normal position because it's dead.

Thanks franklin, I found a few blown fuses, I checked them prior to this but theyre hard to tell if they blew, maybe cuz the plastic is old and not very see through. So, the running lights all work and the turn signals work, however, now the driver side reverse light wont work. I replaced all the bulbs and the pass. side works, even swapped bulbs between sides and its def a wiring or connection issue. What wires should I trace to troubleshoot his? Thanks.

I think they are black with a pink stripe. Sine the one side works, I would look for a bad splice in the rear wiring because apparently the power is getting back to the rear.

Part numbers aren't going to help. They are obsolete. Your only chance is going to be the junkyard.

I would suggest rechecking the wiring that you melted, or the rear pigtail as was posted.

I just remembered something. When I changed the bed on my truck, I kind of had the same problem. It took me two days to figure it out (and it was by accident that I figured it out).

As it turned out, the 1157 bulb was in 180 degrees off! There are two little nubs on the bulb that are supposed to prevent this from happening, but for some reason it was still able to be inserted backwards.

Simply taking the bulb out turning it 180 degrees and putting it back in fixed the problem.

It's worth a shot.........

Stoch, the reverse bulb isnt the 1157, its the regular single prong bulb, so I guess Ill check wiring again and try getting power to the wire to isolate the connector if its bad.

I remembered that my new bed had the light sockets, and I switched the sockets and it fixed the light. Thanks for all the help.
