Door handle (inside)

It's been awhile for a variety of reasons but the truck is running great but I broke off my driver's side door handle on the inside. Any ideas on how to fix?

Yep, one bolt holds it on. The bolt is facing toward the rear of the vehicle with the handle in the closed position. You may need to pry the handle out from the door panel a bit to expose the bolt.

You can get a replacement from most places that carry Dorman Products....Autozone ect, about $5
DORMAN Part # 77177 RH
DORMAN Part # 77178 LH

I replace about 4-5 of these a year, don't ask

I got door handles from AZ twice. Broke them both. The second five min after installing. I was PO'd so took a piece of flat stock and welded a six inch bolt to it, wrapped it up with elec tape, and now use it for a door handle. Farmer fix for a farmer here I know, but works for me. Since it doesn't flex it works better than the orig.

When you start braking a lot of handles the latch assembly is usually wore out and you have to replace the whole cable and what not, a lot of times what I have seen, if you pull off your door panel and look at where the handle base bolts a lot of times the bolts get loose or ripped out (or rivots) and you just use a bolt and big washer to get it solid, that way it gets the slack out and you not jerking on it trying to get the door open and then..... crack, the plastic handles are junk though.

the sheet metal behind my latch assembly was torn a big washer fixed the latch, and a call to LMC got me a new handle. Works like new now.

I agree. Usually when this happens the latch assembly is getting worn out and/or the cable is stretched.

To fix this without all that replacing jazz:
-Simply remove the panel and the handle hinge assembly.
-Take the cable out of this assembly
-twist the cable in the direction that it is already twisted, use your best judgement on this. I twisted several revolotions.
-By doing this you are essentially shortening the cable a bit.
-Be careful not to let it untwist on you and replace it back in the handle hinge assembly. This may possibly be done without removing the cable from the assembly (can't remember).
-replace assembly on door and replace panel.
-Install new plastic $10 handle and you are done.

Easy and cheap fix. I did this on mine and haven't had any problems since. My cable was stretched and the latch assembly was showing wear also. Maybe a temporary fix but mine has lasted for over a year now.

Hope this helps some of you guys.

Thank Guy's mine has been broke for a while!!! While getting my oil changed last week at the dealer, the worker came in the waiting room to tell me my driver-side door handle was broke and just replacing the $8.00 handle wouldnt last ,and that I needed some bar on the inside quote was $250.00-300.00 to fix !!! I laughed at him and told him to put the estimate on my paper work so I would have the part number for the handle. It was'nt until I got home that I looked at the bill, they changed the CPS as a recall, when I just bought one from International Harvester a few months ago, which would have been a perfect back up if they would have gave me the one they took out, it would have went in my toolbox!!!

Did you have a gray CPS or black? If they changed it and it was black, plus you had proof of purchase you should get refunded if you bought the $120 one. They shouldn't have messed with it if it was gray.

I always ask the customer, well the mechanically inclined ones if they want there old CPS back, otherwise they just get chucked.

$300 for a door handle fix? Wow, I know that cable assembly isn't cheap, but still.... I'll look it up at work and see what SRP is on it.
