anyone know the stock HP and/or torque for a '75 400 by chance?
also, if your engine makes a certain amount of HP, is it the same number at the rear wheels or is there a percentage usually lost?

Check out the Tech Articles page on this site for the article by Dave Resch on specs for the 400. I believe it was around 180 hp. As far as the rating at the rear wheels the answer is yes, about 15-20% of the horsepower at the flywheel is lost in the transmission, transfer case (4X4), driveshaft and rear end.

Ford's advertised rating for the 1975 400 was SAE net 158hp @ 3800 rpm. That's net power at the flywheel.
Power at the rear wheels is less, up to 30% (or so) loss with an automatic transmission.
