Hi guys, my 79 351M has had a rattling in it ever since I bough it (sat for 2 years) drove it for a while, got sick of the sound thought it was bad lifters and such. Ripped the whole top end apart replaced lifters, rebuilt heads, found cam was shot-threw in a new one (bearings looked good) replaced timing chain and gears. Fired it up, still rattled like crazy. It only seems to rattle when its warmed up, and you get up to speed and even the throttle out. Checked everything out tonight, distributors gears are wearing bad, threw in another one..still rattles. Just put around $500 on mods, and a several days of work. I feel like crying! What gives? Could my earl pump be putting alot of stress on things or what? If yous think, how do I go about testing it? Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you replace the rocker arms and pushrods? These will make a ton of noise when they are worn. Found this many times to be the problem instead of bad lifters on these engines.
