Three alternators later
Hey, newbie here, I own a 2000 XC F350 4x4 (For Sale), a 2000 CC F350 4x4 Dually on 22.5's, and a 2002 Excursion limited for Mamma. All with 7.3'ssssss. You guys are always helpful, so let me see if I can stump you. On my CC F350 I am on my third alterntor. something would draw my batteries bown just enough to fry the alternator by overworking it. I drive the truck everyday but, it never went dead enough not to start. Ever since I took out the dome fuse, and the relay. It has been fine. I read something about WD-40 in here, very vague. What do I do from here, sometimes the dome would stay on but not all the time. I think it was coming on at night, intermittantly, any suggestions

I tell my customers this everyday,,Alternators are NOT battery chargers.They are designed to maintain a system.Your problem sound like you were basically running your batteries down every night and when you started the vehicle you were maxing the alternator out .When used to charge weak or dead batteries an alternator will be under more stress then a normal system will ever put on it.
