Sounds like the fuel cut off solenoid is sticking

Inside the injection pump. You need to take it to an injection service shop, they build injectors and injection pumps, It can be fixed without pump removal, however, it is unadvisable that you do it yourself b/c if you don't get it exactly right the truck will run away.

You most likely have power still being generated by the alternator being fed back to the IP until it finally stops....

That doesn't make sense, considering the IP solenoid is connected to the ignition switch. Either his ignition switch is not working right, or the solenoid is sticking.

If it starts doing it again, leave the key on, and then pull the wire on top of the pump. IF it still runs then quits, its the solenoid in the pump, if it immediately quits but still runs 3 secs with key, its the ignition

Lead head .........your right.. I meant to ask if he has an electric rad fan, that is what can feed the IP power when the key is off....until the fan stops turning.
