i'm gonna put long tubes on the 94. i don't want the egr, or AIR. would a set of long tubes for say, a 86-88 5.8 work? it is a 2wd. i just want clean, ceramic, long tube headers, (with absolutely no emissions) for this thing, and i seem to be having trouble finding what i want. i will prolly go to typhoon intake system, or maybe a used lightning intake, so egr will be set up at the tb. any suggestions? thanks, jon
Make sure you get truck 5.8 headers.. not mustang 5.8 headers to eliminate any possible fit issues. FWIW the Flowtech longtubes I have are not equipped with EGR or AIR, Flowtech part number 12504FLT or 32504FLT. I added EGR to these as well as an O2 bung in the passenger side header collector, and had them ceramic coated after the fact(I bought the painted version). This ended up costing me more $$ in the end, so I won't be doing that next time around. I'm putting the O2 bungs in the pipe just behind the header and I already have a Typhoon intake so no need for the EGR.
thanks, i'll get some pics. btw, do you like your typhoon? i found a complete lightning intake for $700. sounds steep to me, but by the time you figure both intakes, a throttle body, gaskets, and egr plate, i thought it might work out to be close to the same price. what do you think?
I like the looks of it.. no idea how it performs yet it's only been in the building a few weeks and it won't stop snowing here... so I'm nowhere close to installing it yet. Yes, by the time I get a TB and EGR parts, cable mount brackets, gaskets and various other fittings for vacuum lines and such I bet I'll have spent $600-700.
Oh yeah.. The Typhoon is a cheap chinese knockoff of the Edelbrock Performer intake made by a company called Professional Products. It's not finished as well as most of the products from the big names but that shouldn't hurt performance.
i think im gonna get the 32504flt (ceramic). they are listed for a 4wd, but i see no reason they shouldn't fit a 2wd. btw, if i use a lightning intake, and get some good heads, could i use the 94 lightning ECU? would it help me at all? if so, what part # do i need? thanks
You could use the lightning ECU but there are better options. A MAF 5.8 computer would be a step up from the Lightning computer IMO, that gives you the more advanced metering of the mass air meter and sequential injection.. two things the Lightning ECU doesn't have.
i figured that a maf system would yeild better results, but i'm looking for simplicity, and i think i can just plug and play with a lightning ecm.
I'm thinking the Lightning ECU is calibrated for 24lb injectors.. but I haven't been able to confirm yet. If it is then make sure you use these injectors. All the Lightnings had E4OD trannys so if that is what you have it would certainly be a more compatable swap. BTW.. you don't need a different computer or a tuned computer to make more power, the stock ECU will respond to airflow upgrades and add more fuel up to it's adjustment limits or until the stock fuel system maxes out.
got an e40d, so i think it will work. that's the first i've heard about the injectors, but i haven't looked into it much. i started a new thread about heads, i'm hoping someone can shed some light on that part too... thanks a bunch, jon
