If you wanna do it cheap, figure $300 for an engine, maybe $100 for incidentals and BS parts, and you have yourself a bolt in engine making significantly better power than the 302, and with more potential. Figure while you can still drive the truck with the 302 you can do some port work on the heads of the 351W (free power). Sounds like cheap power to me.
You also get the benefit more torque than the 302. You can have a 302 make more power all day ('till you hit 500 or so and the block splits) but you won't be making any huge gains in low RPM torque. This is where the drop in 351W shows the greatest benefit. A 351W swap can be done for less than the cost of regearing the axles to make a 302 feel more peppy down low. Just gotta keep your eyes open for good deals.
find a junk yard some where with a good cheap 351 and bolt in in there it'll make unbeiliveable power and torque. I have a very tired 351 in an 88 f250 and it still way out performs my 302.
Thanks for all the input guys! Do any of you know where I can find Horsepower/torque specs on stock ford engines? I'd like to do some research on it and find out what the numbers are.
