Wink Changing the serpentine belt

I found this job much easier when you have the right tools. I noticed a brief squeal when starting the engine and suspected the belt was loose. When I went to Advance Auto Parts for a new belt, they also suggested I get their tool kit that they loan out on a deposit basis. The long thin socket wrench and matching narrow sockets fit in between the radiator and belt with ease. I was able to remove the idler pulley to allow access to the tensioner, which I replaced...the old one was shot...with little effort. With a new belt and tensioner installed, I returned the tool kit and was refunded my deposit. Most parts stores have these special tool kits available on a deposit basis and they alleviate the frustration and difficulty of many repairs.

I'm a mechanic with thousands of dollars worth of tools, and I can tell you that I STILL rent the specialty tools from the parts stores (especially when its saturday and my stuff is locked up at the shop). I did brakes this last saturday, and they had a "Master Brake Kit" that I rented, it came with pretty much everything you can think of that you would need to do any brake related project (from the Torx T-40 socket to the rear disc brake caliper pistion tool).

Just remember to pay cash or put it on a credit card. If you use a check, you have to wait like 2 weeks to get your money back.
