I am tossing the possibility of rebuilding my 351m to a 400. if I dO would like to add more power to the combination. but here is the kicker. I am stuck in a smog state.
What are my options?
it will be in my 78 bronco, the only smog equitment is a EGR valve and PCV system.
I am going to ask a smog ref if I am able to run duals or headers, even thought the headers are not legal, I think they will let me because I am a federal vechile and not a CA vechile.
I am also willing to swap out intake manafolds for my smog testing. running a 4 barrell would be a cool setup. I just need the best one for offroading since this vechile sees alot of it!
if possible I would like to see at least 200-250hp if I get more than I will be happier!
Well there is no reason to not build a 400 that is the cheapest form of HP and TQ you can get! second with a mild RV cam a 4bbl. and a good manifold with headers you should be able to break 250hp no problem.
I know the harmoonic balancer is different from the 351m, but what about the fly wheel? will the 351m work? Only thing I have heard of is the diameter of the clutches is different. 11" for the 351 and 12" for the 400.
