Anyone have any experience with Next-Gen? Is it already available in the '08's, or is this a brand new development for the '09's?
I was wondering if it requires a satellite subscription type of service like OnStar. Or if it is strictly DVD driven. Is it voice activated only, or does it have a keypad too?
The promo at Ford's website says it gives step by step verbal instructions and shows a map. Does it also show step by step text instructions, similar to yahoo maps?
The next-gen navigation is going to debut in the '09 Flex and '09 MKS. Navigation is still DVD based, however the enhanced features of the SIRIUS Travel Link which adds traffic reports, weather reports, fuel prices, etc. is subscription based but not required.

Don't forget that the first 6 months of travel link service and SIRIUS radio are free with a new vehicle. Did I say that I love travel link?

Quite frankly, I have no idea what Next-Gen navigation is as this is the first time I have heard of it. Apparently mine is not Next-Gen (according to the previous posts), although I didn't have to load anything on mine with a DVD. In regards to the current system, yes it does give verbal and text directions. There is a keypad that comes up on the touch screen to enter information. It also will apparently accept voice commands as well, but I have not used this feature, so I can't comment on how it works. I just use the touch screen.
