My 2007 is leaking oil from the oil pan drain bolt. I have been the only one who has changed the oil, and I guess I was too scared to strip the bolt by putting too much "umph" on it. Does anyone have the correct torque that I should be using to hopefully stop this unsightly mess on my new truck. Thanks
What usually happens with that the brass washer is it tends to get a lip dug into it from the actual drain plug/bolt being tightened to the pan. What I do during my oil change is I inspect the washer to see how it looks with regards to being level/true. If it seems to be off a little I very easily file down the lip so that the washer is level/true again. By the time I'm done with the washer the oil has drained and I ready to grease all of the fittings. I also add a little dab of permatex no. 2 to the washer and I'm good to go until the next oil change. No oil leaks! I do keep some extra brass washers on hand just in case I truly need a new one. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
the metal washer is a crush washer if i remember correctly. it should be inspected every time, but is probably recommended to replace each time. i second the fumoto valve. i have put one on about my last six or eight cars and trucks. never had an issue with any of them, and don't have to worry about it once it is installed.
