alright guys, i have a 292 in a 64 f100 that i just did the head gaskets and an electronic points conversion on, now it idles just fine and will rev with no load, but under load it just falls down HARD, dosent want to do anything, i have timed and retimed, advanced, retarded, adjusted fuel air mix, idle, i cant think of anything else to do, any help...?
thing is it wasent like that before i did my head gaskets and the conversion.... its almost like its not getting enough fuel, then when i do get her moving it bucks and lurches and dosent want to rev or drive at high gear.
You might try checking your valve clearance. I had a 350 that was doing the same thing you are talking about. I sold the truck befor I figured it out but, I think thats what was wrong with it. If thats not it, check your distributer. I know that some of those electronic pick up convertions or fusy about coils. Look at the paper work that comes with the kit and see if it calls for a spesific coil.
Check the spark advance, sounds like it is not working or you have a vacuum leak.
What kind of shape are the wires in? They may be breaking down under load if they are old?
Are you sure you set the valve set correctly? If the gaps are too small, the engine may behave like this.
Make sure you have the new ignition and coil hooked up properly. Is it a Petronics? May want to call them and discuss what it is doing to see if they have any ideas.
Lastly, check the compression to make sure the new gaskets are sealing as intended.
I put these in the order I would check them, unless you know you didn't gap the valves properly, then I would redo them first.
