backup switch on automatic transmission
backup switch on automatic transmission
Okay, this one should be simple.
My backup lights aren't working right now. The Chilton book I've got says it's most likely a failed backup switch, funny thing is though, I can only find backup switches for manual transmissions. Am I missing something?
Any help is appreciated.

The backup switch is the same as the neutral safety switch (F Series trucks: 1967 and later).
It's mounted on the bottom of the steering column till 1978.
C7TZ-7A247-A .. Neutral Safety Switch ~ 1967/77 F100/350 (Motorcraft SW-600)
It's still available from Ford, but you don't wanna buy it from a dealer...the list price is over $150.00!
Buy one from a parts store, which can cross the Motorcraft part number over to the brand they sell.
i ripped out that stock switch and twisted the start wires together so she will crank over no matter if its in park or drive. very unsafe i know, but oh well. and the other 2 wires that are for the backup lights fabbed up with a fancy switch right next to my wiper switch. its fun when someone is riding your bumper simply because you are doing the speed limit and then tap the brake pedal then flip the switch!
