I need a torque figure! Help!

I need to know how much torque and at what RPM the 1971 and 1972 Ford 400 cid produced. Horsepower too if you know it. And please include where you got the figures.
I am writing a 10 page research paper on the power to cubic inch ratio of the 400 using all stock parts. So I need to know the most torque the 400 ever produced stock. I have looked everywhere and cant find much of anything. Any and all answers are welcome. Thanks a bunch.
Tim

P.S. The paper is due Thursday(4/18), and is required to graduate from my high school.

I need a torque figure! Help!

OK after an hour on my desk top dyno and going thru all the cams ford had to offer the 351M/400 Motors during the 1970 to 1984 era, here's what I came up with .

The stock cam was # 962471 it won't load but 962461 would and it was the closest to the stock numbers so I ran it instead.

Max H.p 249 @ 4000 Rpm's Tq 373 @ 3000 Rpm's I'd say 1970 numbers

Then came the Stock Replacment Rv Cams
32-218-3 .. 241 Hp.@ 4000 376# Tq @ 2500 Redline 5000
32-206-3 .. 255 Hp.@ 4500 377# Tq @ 3000 Redline 5500
15965 .. 250 Hp.@ 4000 374# Tq @ 3000 Redline 6000 Baja Beast

As for the spec.I use on the dyno I pretty much use a stock 400
set-up.

I believe it was 400 lbs @ 2200 in 1971 with 260 hp at 4400? rpm. There's a big drop in '72 because of the change in the way power was measured, but also there was a compression drop starting then.

Thanks for the replies guys. But I need something more concrete, like figures out of a Chilton's manual or something of that nature. I have Chilton's manual that has the 1971 400 in it, but it doesn't say the Hp, torque, or compression. It just says N/A.
I have a ballpark figue now, thanks again. More info is welcome.

Where would I find one of these books?

OK - here it is from the Ultimate American V-8 Engine Data book (p135):

1971 260hp@4400RPM 400FP@2200RPM 9.0:1 compression
1972 172hp@4000RPM 298FP@2200RPM 8.3:1 compression

I believe that the drop in compression is only partly to blame for the drop in power from 1971 to 1972. As I recall, 1972 was the year they switched from rating power at the flywheel to rating it at the rear wheels. Also, the manufacturers were known to mis-rate (typically under-rate) power figures in order to make the insurance companies and tree-huggers happy.
