After you've started your truck, how long do you let your 292 warm up until you take off?
Currently I've been letting my Y-block warm up completely (to about 180 degrees) before leaving. I wonder at what point you could do damage to these engines if you don't let them warm up enough...
I normally let mine warm up until I can hit the gas pedal and let the kick down determine wether warm enough to take off. If the idle is still to high, give it another minute, hit it again, when low rpm at idle is achieved, I'm ready. But that's just me.
Not an authority but of the opinion it's best to at least let the needle move into the start of the cold scale, usually takes no more than 5 min's. IMHO can'nt hirt to allow time for oil passages to fill, and bearings, tappets, valves, etc. reach their respective tolerances. With the newer engines don't think it's an issue. Also, oil manufacturers have eliminated additives some believe are critical for minimizing the wear and tear on the early model engines. Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my $.02.
