1985 f150 stepside

I found a 85 stepside 5.0 (50000 miles),at(200000) for 750.00 and what I am wondering is how expensive is it to get the tranny rebuilt on average and what kind of mileage can you usually expect from the 302 if well tuned up and running right. I haven't had anything that big since 88 and didn't care about the price of gas back then I was 18 had noo worries

It depends on the trans. as far as the cost of the rebuild. Is it AT or stick? The gas mileage should be about 10 mpg city/15 mpg highway.

I find it very hard to believe that any truck with a 302 would get 20 mpg. Even Ford cars such as Crown Vics and T-Birds from that era were hard-pressed to get 20 mpg.

I get between 15 and 16 avg with my 302 depending on whether I use the AC or not. I drive about 65% highway.

My '85 (351W, C-6, 3:55 gears) gets around 12-14 city and about 13-15 highway. Not having overdrive in it hurts the highway mileage...

My '89 has too big an engine (460ci) and too tall of gears (4:10) to get any mileage anywhere. I get 8-10 city and 10-12 highway. This truck *does* have overdrive, but I have to keep it under 65mph or I get something closer to 5mpg highway.
