I was wondering if anyone knew how to tell a close ratio toploader apart from a wide raito. I just picked up one for my 63 uni project and was just curious to know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WR 1st is 2.78, CR is 2.32, you can just put it in gear and turn by hand and see this difference. More info here, and google search will get you more yet.
Truck and car bells have different depths. Measure first. There is a bell id chart on the Kees site.
However, what kind of 302 are you using? A '78 134 horse wheezer, or a Boss blocked 7000 rpm screamer? If you are going to see high revs and are into gear banging, consider a proper scattershield. Costly, but far lest trouble than prosthetics.
