86 302 timing question
I have a '86 302 EFI that needs timing. Unhooked the SPOUT connector, read 10* BTDC on Radiator support, hooked up timing light. Went to clean the balancer and there is only one wide groove Cut in it. I can't not see any timing tick marks.
The pointer mounted on the timing cover has a straight edge with a point on the top (to the drivers side direction), and it has a round circle towards the bottom (passenger side).
I am thinking that I just line the wide groove on the balancer up with the straight edge on the pointer? Or is the circle used for something?
Does ant body realy know?
Thanks Shawn
Thanks for the encouragement.
I Set the timing with the engine off. When I started it, to check it running, the mark was right there, 10 btdc. Man, do I like doing it that way. It fires right up. It's the only way to do initials starts on new engines. (not that this is one)
I rotated the balancer clockwise to 10 btdc. Looked under the cap to ensure it was on the compression stroke - pointing to #1. As the rotor turns counter clockwise, I turned the distributor clockwise with the key & timing light on. I locked down the distributor where the light triggered. Runs great
Thanks Again
