Hey guys whats up?,
I have a 2000 ford explorer with about 113,000 miles on it (all highway). I travel from new jersey to PA a lot. I need to tune up my car, and i want to do it myself. I am fairly new at tune ups, this is my first tune up I will be performing by myself. I need some pointers on how to approach this. I have worked on cars and quads and lawnmowers etc. my whole life, I just want to learn how to be able to do everything by myself. Thanks guys, the help is greatly appreciated.
It would help to know what motor you have. You'll find that the easiest way to get to the plugs is thru the wheel wells. While you are doing the plugs I suggest you do the wires as well. Do 1 plug/wire at a time to avoid messing up the firing order. Get the correct plugs (probably Motorcraft double platinums). Don't skimp on the price. Always check the gap on the plugs even if they are 'pre gapped'. Always put anti seize on the new plugs. DOn't forget to do the air filter and maybe the PCV valve.
