They are.

American made kilts aren't kilts, they're skirts. Kilts are made with tartans. Those "skirts" are made of canvas or leather.

Finally someone who gets it!

Not that I have worn a kilt, but I'd always wondered about tartans my Murray and MacIlhenny ancestors might have worn.

Me, I've always liked the classic regimental Black Watch and the bright Royal Stewart.

Both. The Celts also wore rough woolen plaid trousers into battle. Some references say the Picts also wore trousers, but Roman historians say they fought naked, painted, and tattooed.

I always fight naked, well, I've never actually been in a fight...At the first sign of trouble I strip, because no one wants to mess with a naked dude...
