I have a 78 and it has been sitting for 6-8 months since it has started. Now i cant get any fuel. I tryed blowing air back to tank and no go. I took the line loose before it go in to the tank and it was free. Why can I not blow through the sending unit? Even if the sock was pluged, I should be able to force air into the tank????
i don´t think it´s lack of fuel what doesn´t let you start the truck. You just let that engine "lock" itself, rust built in some friction parts and it doesn´t let the engine turn freely. You´ll have to find another machine to turn the engine, and replace the old Oil, fuel and coolant.
P.S.: Also, try turning the engine on while someone gives some hits with a wrench or something to the tank, it just migth be the pump not working allright.
Probably rust is in the tube and obstructing it. A guitar or piano string (the wound one)
will route it out of there but be careful. Running a few bottles of gas line dryer and
some marvel mystery oil is needed at the very least. Ideally you should drain the tank
and refill it with fresh fuel just to avoid any running problems. If you normally store
this truck for months at a time using gas line dryer, Sta-bil and some marvel mystery
oil at least triple dosed will keep the fuel fresh and will prevent rust(mmo) but the
most important thing is to store it with a full tank or rust will build up on the empty
surfaces and the first time fuel sloshes up and knocks it loose you will suck up all the
scale rust particles.
