Bought a 6" dual walled tip for my new 5" MKO exhaust the other day. The Inside diameter of the tip is under 5"! I am confused the OD is 6". It loses a lot of space with it that way. Will it affect the sound any? Doing the install hopefully Sunday.
Also do dual walled tips make the truck sound any different?
I don't see how the dual wall could possibly affect the sound. I think the idea behind the dual wall is to prevent exhaust heat from discoloring the outside finish.
just like mark said.keeps the tip shiny and chome looking....it may change the tone just a little bit..but it will not hurt the flow...i noticed a small tone change when i put 6" tip on..not sure if it was the size of the tip.. or the length of it..but it wasnt that much of a diff...
i have the same tip (i think). i think it's actually to small (lengthwise). looks like a q-tip end. i want a longer one, but haven't found one i like. as for sound, i can't say it changed anything from before i put the tip on. also, i liked the "look" of the dual wall when shiny and new, but soon enough the inside will turn black from soot and you won't be able to visually tell any difference. when i wash my truck, i try to wipe off the soot to make it "pretty" again, but in a few days it's all black again.
BTW mine fit perfectly over the 5" pipe. i want a longer tip to extend past the weld from where the exhaust shop kinda effed mine up. i wanted the last section to angle backwards like the mbrp kits do. my MKO kit, no matter how i tried, wouldn't exit any further than about 2 inches from the tire. manipulated each section and no matter what i did i couldn't get it away from the tire. so i had the muffler shop to cut and weld it back. but they didn't understand the first time, and it ended up being further back than i wanted. however, it is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, quieter in the cab now. my brother in law was behind me in his duramax (where else should the dirtymax be?) and noted how much louder it was to him being behind me.
i'll see if i can get a picture of clean and dirty.
