it has been leaking oil from the rear of the intake manifold since i bought it 6 months ago. Just the other day it started making a funny noise as if the driver side exhaust manifold were leaking. Upon deceleration it pops and sputters on the drivers side. I checked the oil while fueling up today and found water mixed in and sludgy metal shavings stuck to the bottom of the dipstick. Is it possible to remove the engine and leave the transmission/transfer case in the truck? is it possible to remove the engine/transmission and leave the transfer case only? My truck has the older style transmission with the real low granny gear and I think it is pretty worn as it is hard to shift into second gear. If i pull the engine/trans only and install a rebuilt engine with a newer 5 speed junkyard transmission will it bolt right up to my transfer case?
If you change to the ZF transmission you will have to change your clutch master cylinder and such as well because its not the same as yours. THere are also severial other differences that need to be changed. I also believe your driveshaft may need to be altered because of the differences in length of the transmission. You should do a search on what all would need to be changed.
