truck title

I sold a guy a truck in Kentucky, im from Ohio. The truck he wanted it just for the motor but I told him he must take it all, and he wants to junk the rest. He says he has to get it to pass an inspection to get it transferred into his name. But it wont pass inspection becasue its a truck going to the scrap yard.... He said they told him to send me back the title and for me to go to my deputy register and get the vin/title cancelled. But Whats up with that because he still wont have the dang title to take it to the scrap yard. He also said he called the junkyard and they said they wont take the truck because its not in his name, but everything on the back is signed that its his truck now.... Whats up with that and how is that taken care of? Thanks

Don't know how it works in Ohio...in Massachusetts the new owner would have to title the vehicle in his name in order to transfer ownership to another party...be it a scrap yard or another private owner. You should be able to void the transfer that you filled out on the back of the title with a notarized statement that the purchaser backed out of the deal and never took posession. Perhaps your state DMV can advise you. This deal sounds kind of fishy to me...be wary!!!

well he allready has the truck and I got the money for selling it...So it really aint my problem anymore right? Im just trying to help the guy out a little. He says to get the title in his name its got to be inspected. But wont pass. All he wants is the motor and wants to get rid of the rest of it, but the scrap yard wont accept it because the title isnt in his name...

Can he go to the DMV in your state and transfer the title? He may not be able to register it in his state, but that should take care of the title issue.

You might also have him double check and make sure it's the title and not the registration that requires inspection.

I know around here in Ontario anyway, if I was to buy a vehicle alls that is needed is a signature from seller on the ownership, bill of sale, the taxes paid and a Used vehilcle registration package giving history of title, if vehicle is transferred without a safety certificate or an emissions test, if applicable ( 20 years and older is exempt from emission testing), then the vehicle is transfered as Un-Fit to buyer.

Not sure I understand how things work down there, but basically what if you buy a "basket Case" or just a complete wreck from a salvage auction, you need to safety that before you transfer title ?

I'd suspect you probably do a lein search on title rather than an inspection of the vehicle to make sure title is free before transfer, condition of vehicle should be irrelevant other than for a dollar value for tax purposes, basically the same thing as our Used vehicle package, but I really haven't a clue as to how title transfers work on the other side of the river.

Make it a target and call up someone with a .50 BMG, a few armor piercing rounds
for assorted calibers, some tannerite, some thermite and just make it disappear!!
It is good fun!! I had 2 300zx that I got tired of fixing the one after replacing
the head gaskets twice then the motor and other assorted problems, the other was
the parts car. I told the guy he has to take both of them well he came and got the
one and the t tops and a bunch of other parts from the parts car, I kept calling him
and telling him to get it since it was on my friends farm and he wanted it out of there.
well it went on and on and one day I brought over my 30-30 and unloaded a few box
of shells on it and put a hole in every good part left. I called him a few times and told
him it was getting disposed of. We unloaded probably 10,000 rounds of assorted
calibers into that car and 2 years later with the rust and all the holes there wasn't
much left to the car at all. I can guarantee you that shooting a car in the gas tank
will not make it explode!! I wish we recorded it since we would have beat the mythbusters to it. But shooting a tranny will just about make it catch fire on the
second shot, It atomizes the fluid and the second shot makes it billow out of the hole.

In my experience, scrap yards only want a title if you're hauling in a whole (or mostly whole) vehicle. However, if you disassemble the vehicle (cutting torch and some creativity) and take it to them in two or more trips, they don't view it as a vehicle, just scrap metal.
