Aussie Heads

Ok Guys let me explain what I am doing here and then we can let the ideas, suggestins and insults FLY.

I have a Short block 1969 Boss 302 Block, 4 Bolt main, steel crank.

I recently purchased a set of 351C Open chambered heads for $125
The had been gone threw, seats, guides, 3 Angled job.

I had the heads milled for Guide plates, ported, and polished. Did some gasket matching, and opened them up nicely

Now the combustion chambers started at 78CC's and then have some smoothing and polishing they opened up to 92CC. (the chambers are SEXY if you ask me)

They have been converted to fit a 302 Windsor block. For this to be done you need to drill and tap to water jackets on the head face, and then close them off with screw in plugs, then open 2 water ports on the intake side of the head. (for those intrested email me and i'll send you a spec sheet on what to do)

After this you'll need to get yourself a Boss 302 Manifold. Now these aren't common manifold and are not being Produced anymore. B&A use to build them but are out of business. I bought mine off of Ebay for $200 bucks. It was in perfect shape and checked the #'s and it's a 69 Street Boss Intake.

As for the block, you'll need to drill 3 holes on the head surface to open the water jackets up.

Now what i have come to find out is that BOSS pistons will not work with a 92CC head, as they are flat-top and with 92CC's it will make the compression 7.6:1. This would be fine if i was planning on running a blower on it but i am not. So i called around and the cheapest it will cost me to have pistons made for this is $900(US). The reason being is they need to have a .425in Dome on them and .009 deck clearence. I really don't want to spend $900 on a set if pistons, because like most I am on a budget (which is monitored by the wife every second)

What i need is a set of Closed chambered heads, around 54CC's

Now i know Aussie heads are closed chambered, and i also heard some of the American 4v heads are also closed chambered. But i don't want 4v heads, just not enough low end for me. I also heard that in 1976 the 351M400 heads were closed chambered. Can anyone verify this?

I would be willing to talk to anybody with closed chambered heads, all i need is the heads BARE. No work done to them as i will have to start all over with them and do all the work again anyway. I would also be willing to part with the heads i mentioned above, (BARE)

I am begging someone who can help me to do so. Summer is here, the car is sitting in the garage the engine is sitting on the Stand, all it needs it to finish the upper half and it is done. I don't want to spend the summer sitting watching everyone else cruise around. I want to be crusing to! Help me plz

Sorry about the groveling and begging but i am at the end of my rope and money belt. Wife says any more cash out the door and i might as well sleep in the car. (which wouldn't be bad, except the pro street fiberglass seats aren't comfy at all!)

The only closed chamber 2v cleveland heads meade were for the Australian 302C sold new from 72-83. These heads were never available in the US, although I do believe some may have gone to NZ on exported Aussie falcons/Fairlanes.

Basically, if you want a set you will need to organise for them to be sent from Australia, or pay the high prices people in the US ask for them. Considering these heads cost just a couple of hundred $AUS (ie, $US100) here, I am surprised they sell for so much in the US. I mysel;f have a set of bare closed chamber 2v heads in my garage; whwn I had my 351C rebuilt a year ago, the engine builder discouraged me from using the high compression heads due to the need for high grade fuel, but in retrospect I regret not using them (my motor has about 9:1 compression with the open chamber 2v heads I have now). Sorry I can't help you but 92CC heads the the last thing I want, as I too have no plans to run a blower.

Somethings not right with the math here. If you opened up the 2v 78cc heads to 92cc you would be bound to strike water. Are you sure of the new volume?

Drop that deck height down. Shave them heads... You'll get the compression you want. No doubt about it.
