I have a 2000 F150 5.4 with 156K miles. On yesterday CEL came on while traveling at highway speed but truck ran fine. After I got home decided to check under the hood to see if I could find anything. All looked well with the exception of battery terminals so I disconnected those and cleaned them off. When I reconnected them and restarted the truck the CEL was off. Hasn't come back on yet. This morning when decelerating on the highway the truck kind of jerked to a slower speed like it may be shutting down but continued to run normal after a split second. I noticed that the temp gauge was only up about a quarter inch or so after running for about 15 miles. It was a cool morning but this has never happened. As far as the jerk like it was shutting down, it did this about a year or so ago and then ran fine until now. Anyone with ideas as to what this could be?
sounds like you need to take it to autozone or oreily and let them pull the codes, they do this for free. sort of sounds like you have a faulter coil on plug
Thansk for all the replies. It has ran fine since yesterday morning but the temp gauge is still a little low. Think I will replace teh T/stat and see if it takes care of tha part of the problem. I must say though, after 156K miles, it has been relativiely problem free. Thanks again.
A funky IAC can cause problems in turns, anytime your foot is off the gas slowing down, but has no effect on the temp issue. An IAC can act up sometimes years apart, be fine again for a long time. Do the thermostat for maybe the temp issue, then go from there. How is the heat in the cab?
It heats up great. Everything else is working fine, I just happened to notice that it was not at the normal operating temp of about halfway on the gauge. I will see what happens after replacing t/stat. Thanks for the info.
