351m or 400m?

Hey guys, I've owned my '78 F-250 for a couple of months and the last owner said the engine was the origional 351m, but I decoded the VIN # and it said the engine is a 400. So how do I distinguish the two? Can anyone tell me what to look for to so what engine is in it.

351m or 400m?

The only way to tell which one you have is to measure the stroke of the motor. 3 1/2" for the 351 ... 4" for the 400.
