The '74 2V 351 Clevelands were factory rated at 250 horsepower, and the 4V at 300. However the latter 2V's were rated at 250 as well but apparently made only around 205 hp, according to one member here, who nearly always has very accurate information. Of interest some of the early 4v's were rated at 300, and have been dyno tested at 380-385.

'nearly' always? 8)

Yeah, basically they made under 210 hp at the flywheel, but with a four barrel intake and carb, and headers, it is not hard to get that number up over the 250hp mark.

I'm not sure about the compression of the US motors after 73 (but then I don't think you even got clevos after 73), but here we had 9.5:1 2v motors from 70 to 73 or so, I think, then 9:1 till they were no longer sold in 1983. 9:1 was the lowest compression we ever got with our 351's.

So its probably a 9:1 compresion?

So a 10:1 compression would yield at least a 50hp(read this from a professional engine builder) increase along with a 4v intake and 750cfm carb yields a 35 hp increase(this is true) and a good cam (total kit with a valve train to match)i assuming would yield another 50hp increase so a total of 135hp increase to theh 205hp would make 340 total hp. Man i didn't know that it would add up that fast.

I think 50hp for a 1 point rise in compression is a little *cough* hopeful. I'm still running stock compression (well, maybe a little higher due to milling when the motor was reco'd) and it is making around 300-320 hp with headers, dual exhausts, electronic distributor and cam/springs to match. Just be careful about running 10:1 compression with open chamber heads; even small increases in compression with these heads tend to cause detonation, so if you are going to run 10:1 pistons you might want to start saving to 1) buy premium fuel or 2) have the chambers polished, which of course will lower compression again.

A MUCH better alternative is to use the 2v closed chamber 'Aussie' heads with the stock 9:1 pistons, although this combo will also need premium gas.

The gains in hp from just switching to a dual 4bbl 2v intake and 600 holley printed in an old mag I have (which is not with me right now) were about 25hp whilst leaving everything else stock. With headers, a cam/spring change and a single plane intake, you'll get a 300+hp motor that will be happy to rev strongly to 5500rpm.

I am prepared to run the higher fuel cause the vehicle tyhat this motor will be going into will not bee a daily driver. That setup you listed is kinda what i am hoping for and and regaurdless of how hp increase i get from the comp increase i believe that i will be above the 320hp mark don't you think.
