ive got a 90 f250 4x4 5.0 4 speed and i just replaced the pick up coil in the distributor and the ignition coil all connections are good. what else is common for going out.
You can get 'em from Advance pretty cheap. They are very expensive from Ford, But I like running Ford electronics. I have never tried one from Advance, but it may be worth a try. The last time i had one go out, Ford was about $100 higher.
i work at napa and will go with that one. if you get the premium line at napa it has a lifetime warranty on almost all parts.. and i get a decent discount
TFI is a P.O.S. this model year (I still Love the 87-91 though)
Replace the TFI MODUAL (under and on the side of the distributor) @$40.
The only ones I have had good luck with are the ones from O'rieliey Auto Parts. I'm not promoting this company , just giving a fact.( I like Auto Zone 1st)
And to help prevent the TFI from going bad you need to clean the ground connection to it.
The Grounds is just to the right of the battery on the radiator support, There is a small bolt that holds a couple ground wires in one spot.
Take the bolt out and clean everything with a metal wire brush. (the bolt, and all the flat sides of the ground wire "O"connectors.
I have lots of cheap modifications in my profile on a 91 F-150, 5.0-302 Motor. I am presently replacing the Crappy AOD "Mustang" Transmission for the Heavy Duty 3 speed C6.
Do you have a C6 in the 250? I would like to see some (close) photos of your C6 shift Bracket Connection and The Kick Down ( Both to the Intake and Transmission ) Connection.
The AOD has a Throttle Valve Cable and it works through-out the throttle pull , not just 3/4 the way ,as a kick down should.
Here is the Grounds
