I need to improve the performance of my F150 302 1990 4x4 AOD /Speed Density.
Can I reprogram ECC with SD ?
It's better convert to MAF first ?

I need help.

There's no need or benefit to messing with the computer until you get into some pretty substantial modifications to the motor. What have you added to your stock 5.0?

I've adeed only K&N filter Kit and TransGo Kit into AOD, I know that with SD system you can't make many modifications to the engine, a the other hand MAF is more flexible to do that.

I'm waiting for you comments, thanks

That's not entirely true, the modifications I have on my 5.8 would run fine on an SD computer. The SD system is sensitive to vacuum fluctuations so the cam in the motor had to fall within certain specs, you can upgrade it to one with much higher lift than stock however, and combine that with other upgrades to produce quite a bit more power. There are benefits to the MAF system besides it's superior ability to adapt to a wider range of modifications, but it's not absolutely required to make more power.

Other Idea is to swap into the truck a 5.8 ZF 5 speed that is for sale about 1.000 bucks... What do you recommend me? tune up 302 or get the 5.8

I don`t know if the 5.8 comes with MAF or SD system... and don`t have any sensor and less ECC, can I use the 5.0 components into 5.8. without problems...

Thanks

Swapping a 5.8 in place of a 5.0 is a big upgrade. You will notice substantially more power right away. Then you take the mods that you were going to do to the 5.0 that Paul suggested and WHOA.

You can put the 5.8 with the ZF in your truck. For $1000 it's worth it, the small block ZF's are hard to come by. You can use your current wiring harness, but you will need a 5.8 computer for it to run properly, especially if you mod it.

Even if the 5.8 is mass air, it won't matter. It's not the motor that makes it mass air, it's the computer and a couple of the sensors, none of which are usually part of a motor swap.

If it is mass air though, I would get the components to make it mass air, but it's definitely not necessary for what you want to do.

Thanks, I'm really glad for the help I that I've found in this forum.

I'll go for the 5.8 L and I'd like to tell me more details about how to performance it.
