Does anyone have a trick to get valve guides to seat. I have about 1000 miles on a rebuild of my 351c. When I start the motor I get a cloud of smoke every time.
Actually I don't think the guides need any "seating" they are either tight enough or not. They weren't knurled were they? The thing that need to seat is the oil ring. You could have a vacuum leak under the manifold. Maybe it just needs more miles on it.
We I took it out this weekend and opened up on the highway. So far I still have the puff of smoke when I start it. It's the same whether I let it sit all night or if I just let it sit a couple of minutes. I guess I'll do a compression test next to see what if anything that tells me.
