i have a 92 bronco with the push button 4x4 and it don't like to work 70% of the time and once your stuck your stuck i was wondering if there is any conversion kits for manual shift all i can find is the hub conversion but I'd like to change it all
I have the electric shift transfer case and automatic hubs and they are reliable. My next "round tuitt" is to replace the hubs with either Warn Premium or MileMarker as a preventative measure. The electric shift is a "use it or lose it" system. Several times per month I stop, put in Neutral and shift in and out to 4L several times to keep the shift motor free. Half of the manual transfer case is different from the electric so most people replace the whole thing if they decide to convert to manual shift. As for me, I don't plan to change anything except the auto hubs.
I have to agree with b4hntn. If your shift motor is shot, it may cost a bit to replace. But you will never have a problem again. Also, dont just shift in and out. Drive it in four wheel! The front diff needs to rotate every so often. I pulled the cover off a front diff one time and half the ring gear, carrier and bearings was solid rust. The bottom half was like new covered with oil.
find a manual Tcase from same year bronco and swap it in. its a direct swap and there is even a spot in the floor for the shifter to come up thru. the auto hubs are weak and the electric motors fail if like they said you dont use it but once in a blue moon. search for manual tcase swap its been discussed.
The only thing I miss about the Manual t-case is the neutral position, but not really a big deal. The shift motor works great if you shift into it at least once a month, havent had mine refuse to work since. I do wish I could lock and unlock the hubs when I forsee issues, because once I need 4wd it takes a bit of turning before they lock in. While the truck is stuck the front end is ratcheting and stripping until that portion locks in, very annoying to say the least.
well you can convert it ... and its not that hard just time consuming... get a manual shifting transfer case out of a f-150 or bronco close to the same year or same year... and get the floor pan as well.. it think its like 12-16 screws and it comes out.. i did this on my f-150...... then just put on manual hubs.... everything will bolt up no problem...
