Cool gas trouble

I just got my 66 F250 352 home. I runs a little rough but will idle when warm. I have trouble starting it every morning. It has been sitting the past few years and I decided to put a new fuel pump on it to help with starting. When I took off the supply line to the fuel pump there was no gas. Please help fix.

These old trucks are very cold natured, you have to use a lot of choke to get them going. Newer carbs with their electric chokes have made a big difference in that area.

Did you change the fuel pump yet?

The original fuel pumps have a tomato juice sized can screwed onto them.

Inside that can is a cartridge fuel filter. It rarely gets changed because most ppl don't know it's there.

If the filter gets clogged up, no fuel will flow from the pump.

There might also be another fuel filter somewhere along the line. I know my truck has one in there as well as the one NumberDummy mentioned in the fuel pump.

All of the above is good information but remember that the pump has to pull the fuel up a syphon tube and out the top of the tank. (assuming that your tank is still behind the seat). This is a good time to make sure that the tube is not patially clogged. With the line disconnected from the pump, put some air to the filler neck. (compressed air is the easiest but you can just blow into it ). This will show you if fuel is flowing freely out of the tank. Depending upon how your supply line to the pump lays, there might be little or no fuel leak out when you disconnect the line from the pump. Steve

Steve, I disagree, Disconnect the tank side line from the pump and see if gas doesn't run out on it's own.

My old 65 has had a fuel filter under the drivers back corner of the cab for
years and I am sure a filter came there from the factory, the fuel line follows
the frame to that corner and then it passes through the frame to that corner
two small rubber lines hook to the steel lines pull that filter lose place a five
gallon bucket under that corner of the cab and take the gas cap off, place
a walmart bag over the fuel filler tube and blow with your mouth do not beath
in (ONLY) breath out hard! If fuel does not flow quickly stop, check your bucket no or small amount, stop take a air line and blow though the small fuel
line into the tank backwards low air pressure make sure the fuel filler cap is back on. It just takes a couple of low pressure blasts to clear the line. And you will hear it bubble. Now try blowing in the tank with your mouth again. Make sure you put the bucket back in place. The fuel will start running out that hose and end running out that hose rusty, I would empty the tank.
I would also blow the line coming from the fuel pump to that corner with a light low pressure blast, one should do it.

PS Make sure key is off and battery is disconnected. Do not smoke while you do this either.
