If it's locked, it's not worth much more than you paid for it. I don't know what cores are for it. If it wasn't locked, then it would depend on the motor in the truck. The ZF is a popular swap for the M5OD behind 300's and 302's, so they are in fairly high demand in the small bell pattern. If the truck had a 460 or a diesel, then it's really not worth much.

Hard to say what the replacement is going to cost, again it depends on what motor is in the truck. Small bell ZF's are going to be quite a bit more than the big bell pattern.
Without knowing more about it, it's impossible for me to say what the problem is. The transfer case is not hard at all to drop, I would start there and see what's still stuck.
