I believe its an 05 or 06(it's my work van). It starts fine when it cold, however, after I do a long drive it wont start at all. I have to leave it for at least a half day in order to get it started again, anyone experienced this problem before?
If the motor is turning over and not starting it is probably the stc fitting in the hpop system. If it doesn't turn over it is probably the starter going south.
It does turn over, what is a stc fitting, and what is the hpop system? right now the van is at Ford and they are having trouble repliating the problem, of course charing me money while they can't find the problem.
stc is a fitting at the rear of the motor in the high pressure oil system. when oil is cold the oil pressure builds up to fire the injectors. When the oil is warm and thinner the system can't build enough pressure to fire the injectors. A weak hi-press. oil pump can also create this scenario. If it is in the hpop system the repair should be covered under the 5yr./100,000 mile engine warranty with 100 dollar deductible. Good luck, you need a good diesel tech on this one.
it's probably the HPOP.....you have to let the dealer know it's only when it's warm that it won't start so they know to get the truck warm first before trying to replicate it........good luck
I agree I just had my STC fitting and HPOP replaced and now she starts like new. I had the exact same condition, no start when warm, long crank when cold. It would sometimes stumble when starting cold.
Print a copy of the TSBs below and take them with you. It will show the dealer that you are an informed individual and they can no longer jerk you around, because you are on to them. I would also ask for a credit on the diagnostic fees you already paid because of their misdiagnosis. They should be aware of these issues and you should not have to pay for their inability to diagnose what is obviously a common issue with these engines.
