390?

I was wondering if the 390 is as tuff and as reliable and durable as the 300 I6 and is it true that they have the same mounting perches for a direct swap?

The 390 is a good engine although it would probably not run quite as long as the I6. I have a bored out 390 in my 76 F150 that is mildly built and I absolutely love it. Lots of low end torque and high end horsepower too. As for the perches I'm not sure but I really doubt they are the same. I know the bellhousing bolt patterns are different

The I-6 and FE share the same perches. While the I-6 might be as good as the 390 why would you want to run less power for the same buck?

Pretty much, if you use due diligence they both can live a long time. Search for threads by Hoxii, he did a swap in his '80s truck.
