Offy Intakes

Ok I have heard that offenhauser intakes are the hot ##### and outperform both Edelbrock and Holley/Weiand when it comes to the Ford 400. Before I ask any other questions, is this true? If so, which intake do I want? Their "Dual Port 360" or the "360 Equa-Flow"? It seems to me that the Dual port costs more, which tells me they are the better performer. I am totally clueless though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. An Offy website address would also be nice. Thanks guys.

There's a good website for 351C intakes. They don't make this many for the 400, but these can be used if you use an aftermarket spacer/adapter. The descriptions can give you some idea how a 400 intake version of these intakes will perform.

I have heard that the dual port offy manifolds are nothing special; apparently they work better once the split between the runners is removed!

Don't remove the split between the runners!! That's the whole magic of these manifolds! If you read the information in P.A.W. next to the price listings for these manifolds you'll see what I mean. If you cut out the split between the runners all you're going to end up with is a single plane manifold! That doesn't really sound or flow like a dual plane manifold does it? And yes, you want the dual-port 360* because of it's all-around streetability.

The 360 Equa-flow and the 360 dual port are 2 different intakes. They both have a center divider that seperates the left and right side of the engine. That makes the port volume similar to a dual plane design. Removing the center divider would ruin the benefit of the smaller volume and kill low to mid range power.

The 360 dual port has an additional divider that seperates the primary and secondary side of the carb. Mainly for improving gas mileage I think. I believe this is the what was meant by the split between the runners being removed. Not the center divider.
